Gaithersburg, MD – April McClain Delaney, Democratic candidate for Maryland’s 6th Congressional District, hosted a Town Hall with the Maryland Democratic Party’s Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) Diversity Leadership Council. The event underscored her commitment to fostering economic growth, addressing the rise in anti-Asian hate, and building stronger partnerships with communities that have been historically underrepresented.

“Maryland’s AAPI community is a vibrant and vital part of our state, especially here in the 6th District,” said April McClain Delaney. “Celebrating their rich culture and invaluable contributions strengthens our ability to build inclusive, thriving communities prepared for the challenges ahead. As the next Congresswoman for Maryland’s 6th District, I am committed to standing with the AAPI community to combat Asian hate, boost economic growth, and create a safer environment for our children.”

Leaders from the AAPI Diversity Leadership Council emphasized McClain Delaney’s proven dedication to advocating for the needs of Asian American families and businesses across Maryland.

Bel Leong-Hong, DNC AAPI Caucus Chair and Member of the Maryland Democratic Party AAPI Diversity Leadership Council, said: “I appreciated hearing that if and when she is elected, she ‘will have our backs.’ She is also empathetic to our AAPI issues, and is willing to reach out to us and understand more deeply what we care about. We have to roll up our sleeves and help her win. The alternative is not an option, April McClain Delaney stands for and supports issues that are dear and close to our hearts and interests.”

Devang Shah, Chair of the Maryland Democratic Party AAPI Diversity Leadership Council, said: “April supports investments in areas that will truly make a difference for the lives of kids in the community, namely education, mental health, and privacy in the digital age. She is more than just talk. Yesterday, she demonstrated once again that she actively listens to our community and supports policies that are relevant and applicable to the improvement of our families lives. As a father of three daughters, I believe that electing April McClain Delaney is imperative for ensuring a future of opportunity and freedom for our children.”

Clarence Lam, Maryland State Senator, District 12, said: “I’m proud to support April McClain Delaney for Congress. April spoke about issues that are important to the Asian American and Pacific Islander Community, and she shares our values. Her responses and remarks at yesterday’s meet and greet with the AAPI community demonstrated her thoughtfulness on challenging issues, commitment to service, and willingness to listen. In today’s political environment, April’s common sense and common ground approach is exactly what we need in Congress.”

Dr. Chao Wu, Maryland House Delegate, District 9A, said: “April is a candidate who gets things done, which is the same spirit many AAPI communities love and have. We need our Congress to address real issues, find good solutions and work for us.”

Lily Qi, Maryland House Delegate, District 15, said: “April is uniquely qualified as an experienced public servant to represent Maryland 6th District. She has our back and knows how to navigate the federal government system to get things done and bring resources to Western Maryland to expand economic opportunities and uplift communities.”
