Gaithersburg, MD – Today, April McClain Delaney, released the following statement condemning recent revelations that Neil Parrott consistently voted against protections for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in the Maryland state legislature.
“Neil Parrott’s remarks are not just offensive, they are dangerous and a threat to women’s safety. Time and time again his record reveals a deeply troubling view that is not only out of touch with the realities women face, but undermines the decades of progress women have fought for,” said April McClain Delaney. “At a time when women’s fundamental rights are under constant attack, we need leaders who will stand unwavering in their defense – not someone intent on undermining it.”
As reported by The 19th News, Neil Parrott consistently voted against attempts to repeal Maryland laws prohibiting defendants from being prosecuted for second-degree rape and fourth-degree sex offenses if the victim was married to the accused person, or was incapacitated during the assault. In 2022, he specifically described legislation as “ridiculous” and actively encouraged the body to vote “no.”
Parrott’s votes reflect a broader, disturbing pattern in his legislative record coming to light for Maryland voters – from tattooing HIV patients and denying life-saving medication, to attempts to ban and criminalize abortion even in the case of rape and incest.
“Neil Parrott continues to show us who he really is and Maryland’s 6th District deserves better,” said April McClain Delaney. “I’m running to ensure every woman and every survivor has a champion in Congress.”
