Gaithersburg, MD – Today, April McClain Delaney, candidate for Maryland’s 6th Congressional District, released the following statement regarding the proposed Maryland Piedmont Reliability Project:
“Over the past few months, citizens and elected officials across Frederick, Carroll, and Baltimore counties have been deliberating the proposed Maryland Piedmont Reliability Project (MPRP), a major infrastructure initiative with significant implications for our state. While we all recognize the need for electrical grid improvements and the potential benefits of new sustainable energy systems, these efforts must be conducted in full coordination with the communities they will impact. When done right, such infrastructure projects can strengthen our communities, boost our economy, and enhance our quality of life. However, any initiative of this magnitude must prioritize transparency, community input, and the protection of our resources. I’ve heard from residents across the 6th District and have listened to their concerns. Based on these conversations, it is clear that the parties leading the proposed MPRP have more work to do on these critical areas.
“I strongly urge all involved parties practice due diligence and work towards adequate notice, communication, and full transparency throughout this proposal process. The people of Maryland deserve a thorough and honest assessment of the project’s necessity and all potential impacts. Before moving forward, we must explore all alternatives and make certain that every decision is made with the best interests of our communities.”
