Gaithersburg, MD – Today, April McClain Delaney, candidate for Maryland’s 6th Congressional District, proudly unveils her Women’s Agenda—a comprehensive plan dedicated to safeguarding reproductive rights, advancing women’s health, and continuing the fight for gender equality.

“On this important day, we honor the legacy of women who fought courageously for equality and progress,” said April McClain Delaney. “But our work is far from over. Women must have the right to make decisions about their own bodies, control their own futures, and live free from discrimination, violence, and political interference. In Congress, I will be unwavering in my defense of reproductive rights and justice, and fight every day for a fairer, safer, and more equitable future for all women.”

As a mother of four daughters, April understands firsthand the necessity of combating gender discrimination and advancing gender equity. April’s career in leadership positions with national nonprofits and organizations dedicated to advancing women’s rights has reinforced her commitment to gender equity and policy reform.

Her Women’s Agenda encompasses three key pillars:

Defending Reproductive Freedom and Advancing Women’s Health:
April is dedicated to protecting access to safe, legal abortion, and reproductive healthcare. With reproductive rights under attack across the country, she will champion federal protections – such as codifying Roe v. Wade, and co-sponsor the Women’s Health Protection Act to ensure that every woman can make decisions about her own body and health without government interference.

Ending Gender-Based Violence:

April is committed to ending gender-based violence by supporting the Violence Against Women Act and the Biden-Harris National Plan to address sexual and intimate partner violence. In Congress, she will advocate for funding key federal programs that protect vulnerable individuals, such as the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Visiting Program and the Rape Prevention and Education Program.

Supporting Families and Empowering Women in the Workforce:
Economic empowerment is critical to women’s equality, and April will champion policies that empower women in the workforce by addressing unpaid caregiving, child care costs, and economic inequality. In Congress, April will work to raise the minimum wage, promote pay equity, and ensure workplace protections include paid family leave and affordable childcare for working families.

“As Maryland’s next Congresswoman, I will bring the fight for gender equality to the forefront of every policy discussion. Together, we will ensure that the promise of equality extends to every woman, no matter who she is or where she lives,” said April McClain Delaney.
