Gaithersburg, MD – April McClain Delaney, candidate for Maryland’s 6th Congressional District, released the following statement today, following recent revelations that Neil Parrott opposed in vitro fertilization (IVF) for same-sex couples.
“Neil Parrott’s opposition to IVF for same-sex couples and his claim that it would create a ‘false sense of equality’ are deeply troubling and reveal a blatant disregard for the rights and dignity of Maryland’s diverse families. His stance not only discriminates against LGBTQ+ individuals but also denies them the fundamental right to build a family,” said April McClain Delaney.
“It’s clear that Neil Parrott is now trying to rewrite his record of harmful views, masking blatant discrimination as fiscal responsibility. However, whether it was his attempt to overturn Maryland’s marriage equality law before it was legalized federally, his push for a referendum on a bill that would ban anti-transgender discrimination in the state, or his declaration that a Supreme Court decision affirming workplace protections for LGBTQ+ individuals was a ‘disappointment,’ Parrott’s opposition to equal rights for Maryland’s LGBTQ+ community is both long standing and well-documented.
Maryland deserves leaders who will defend and champion equality, and ensure that every family, regardless of their background, is treated with respect and fairness.”
