Gaithersburg, MD – Today, Maryland State Education Association (MSEA), the state affiliate of the National Education Association (NEA), is announcing NEA’s recommendation of April McClain Delaney in the race for Maryland’s 6th Congressional District. MSEA is the state’s largest professional employee organization, representing 75,000 education professionals.

“I am honored to have educators’ endorsement of our campaign, and I look forward to our continued work together to ensure that Maryland continues to be a champion for world-class public education,” said April McClain Delaney.

“Our educators value leadership that is committed to ensuring Maryland schools have the resources they need to provide equitable, high quality, and accessible education,” said MSEA President Cheryl Bost. “April McClain Delaney has extensive experience working in childhood public advocacy, and is committed to building meaningful partnerships with educators to ensure our education policies lift up and advance Maryland’s public schools.”

Serving as the Director for Common Sense Media, a leading Washington D.C. nonprofit specializing in research and advocacy for children in the digital age, April brings a breadth of knowledge on the challenges impacting childhood development to her education agenda.

“Investments in public schools are investments in the future of our children and communities. I know the challenges our education systems face, and the importance of public policy that puts the needs of educators and students at the forefront of the discussion,” said McClain Delaney.

“Maryland educators know that April McClain Delaney will be a champion for students and working families. She will bring her much-needed perspective to the U.S. House, using her voice to ensure that every student – no matter their race, place, or background – has access to quality public schools. While some extreme politicians are focused on banning books and taking away learning opportunities for students, she will be a trusted partner for parents and educators to strengthen Maryland’s public schools and ensure students can get the one-on-one support they need, expand school-based mental health programs, keep students and educators safe from gun violence, and address educator shortages. The National Education Association is proud to recommend April McClain Delaney for the U.S. House,” said National Education Association President Becky Pringle.
